Produced by: Mangla Bansal/ Ramkali Productions
Composer: Rupinder Singh Sidhu
Vocalist: Neeraja Aptikar
The music for the film is a new rendition of 'Khoob Teri Pagri, Meethe Tere Bhol', a Sikh hymn (shabad). This shabad was written by Bhagat Naam Dev Ji (1270 A.D- 1350 A.D) and can be found in the Raag Tilang on Ang 727 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj (Sikh holy book).
Story behind the song- 'Khoob Teri Pagri, Meethe Tere Bhol' was originally heard by filmmaker, Mangla Bansal at the gurdwara (Sikh temple). A miraculous evening of music lead Mangla to want to do a new rendition of the song.
Bhagat Naam Dev (the author) was a very famous sufi poet. There are many different stories about how the song came to be. For Mangla though, it touched her soul. Traditionally in sufi music, it is believed that all souls are female and the almighty is the only male. This song hit the spot. 'How wonderful is your turban, how sweet is your speech'.
Mangla decided she wanted a female voice for the song. Every time she had heard it it had been in the male voice. She decided to combine the two. In the film, raagi (singer) Paramjit Singh sings this hymn for the wedding scene. In the new rendition of the song, Neeraja Aptikar's voice is used. For Mangla, this is the perfect balance of male and female.
Producing music is no easy task. After a year of hard work and with the help of composer Rupinder Singh Sidhu, vocalist Neeraja Aptikar and other kind souls, the song is finally ready.
